Solar Leading Falling Renewable Energy Costs
The cost of solar power is falling faster than any other technology, a new report by the INTERNATIONAL RENEWABLE ENERGY AGENCY (IRENA) has found.

The cost of residential solar installs fell 70% since 2008, according to the report, launched to coincide with the World Future Energy Summit in Abu Dhabi.

"In many places now, renewable energy projects across the globe are now MATCHING OR OUTPERFORMING FOSSIL FUELS, particularly when accounting for externalities like local pollution, environmental damage and ill health," said Adnan Z.

Amin, the re-elected director-general of IRENA. "The game has changed; the plummeting price of renewables is creating a HISTORIC OPPORTUNITY to build a clean, sustainable energy system and avert catastrophic climate change in an affordable way."

Whilst this trend has been fantastic and a reflection of huge global confidence in the benefits of Solar the drop in costs is NOT A STRAIGHT LINE and for now it is vital that there is ongoing strong political will to ensure we really get to that tipping point with renewable energy at which time reliably we can turn our attention away from the so last century fossil fuels with all the associated climate issues, political risk and uncertainty.

We also must not forget when making these COMPARISON COSTS and saying for how long renewable energy will need some support - We don't forget that after over 200 years of existence the fossil fuel industry still attracts almost 2 trillion per year in support of one form or another.
